In the 1950s stock car racing was becoming a popular form of family entertainment across the United States, and Northwest New Mexico was no different. A handful of men decided that the area needed a race track and took it upon themselves to build it. Some of the men were Floyd Reynolds, Wayne Martin, Archie Lopez, Larry Pulis, Mike Clifford, Gene Stewart, Frank Bower and many more. They opened Aztec Speedway in 1952 and it has been running ever since. There have been several track operators here and all of them had one goal in mind: to have a safe, organized place to race the cars and everyone have fun doing it.
Now we have the annual Floyd Reynolds event to honor the original racers and builders of the Aztec Speedway.
